Region of Central Macedonia

The Region of Central Macedonia has a unique wine reserve in Europe and a dynamic wine production, so ancient, but also so modern in taste.

PDO and PGI wines as well as local wines in the areas of Vertisckos, Paggaio, Serres, Sithonia, Paiko and Mount Athos, Thessloniki, Pella, Imathia and Pieria and of course the areas of Naousa and Goumenissa. With eight Wine Roads, with Xinomavro dominatig and Malagouzia following. Negosca, Tsapurno, Athiri, Assyrtiko as well as Moschato, Prekniariko and Moschomavro, in Harmony with the other foreign, French and Italian varieties. With almost 200 active wineries, many of which can be visited and where the visit can enjoy guided tours and tastings of aromatic wines and local delicacies. With Xinomavro as king in Naousa and with almost 1000 labels, Central Macedonia holds the most prominent position among the wine regions in Greece and each of its Regional Units claims its claim their own titles.

For the Region of Central Macedonia, viticulture, wine production and wine tourism are not only dynamic sectors of economic activity with a significant contribution to the local economy and employment. It is primarily a cultural heritage that connects us to our rich historical past. Vineyards are an integral part of the Macedonian landscape and local wines are one of the main elements of our culinary identity. For these reasons, the Region of Central Macedonia, committed to extroversion and cooperation both with local communities and with agencies in Greece and abroad, projects and promotes its wine stock by implementing actions aimed at highlighting its multifaceted and unique wine identity. In this context we acceded in the cultural route of the Council of Europe ITER VITIS, in which we have been a proud partner since 2018, and we seek to further strengthen our presence in this unique international network.
